IndustriALL Global Union calls on Whirlpool to consult unions in Italy and work with government to find a fair and sustainable solution
Dear Mr. Morgia,
I am writing this letter to you on behalf of IndustriALL Global Union’s more than fifty million workers in mining, energy and manufacturing sectors throughout the world, including Italy, to call on Whirlpool to stop jeopardizing the jobs of Whirlpool workers in Italy.
IndustriALL Global Union condemns in the strongest terms the company’s unilateral decision to relocate jobs, creating fear about the plan or re-industrialization of Carinaro plant, and close the Naples plant, without proper consultation with the concerned unions. We are extremely concerned about the future of the community as we fully understand how crucial manufacturing is for the respective local economy.
IndustriALL Global Union urges Whirlpool to engage in consultations with FIOM-CGIL, FIM-CISL, and UILM–which are affiliated to IndustriALL—and with the government to find a fair and sustainable solution. It is imperative to avoid mass job losses, which would have a devastating impact on the community.
We trust Whirlpool will act in a socially responsible manner, and in full accord with Italian labour law, and international core labour standards, thus preserving and protecting your faithful and hardworking workforce, and committing the company to a fair and sustainable future for the Whirlpool workers.
Sincerely,
Valter Sanches
General Secretary
